Semi truck’s failure to yield leaves 9 students with “bumps and bruises”

The school bus was on its usual afternoon route when the collision occurred.

Nine students sustained minor injuries in an accident involving a semi truck and a school bus late last week.

The accident occurred on Thursday, November 5th at around 3:30 p.m. in Wilson, Arkansas.

According to KNOE News 8, the school bus was traveling through the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 14 when a semi truck failed to yield to its right-of-way. The semi truck struck the rear quarter panel of the bus, jostling the 23 students on board.

Although the school district Superintendent, Sally Bennett, described injuries sustained at the scene as “bumps and bruises,” six students were transported to the hospital and three were taken to the emergency room.

“The district has received no reports from parents or medical providers of more serious injuries,” Bennett stated in a Monday news release.

“The Rivercrest School District understands its obligation to safely transport its students and is taking this opportunity to remind the driving public to watch out for our big yellow school buses. They carry our precious students on the roads every weekday morning and afternoon.”
