Seven semi pileup shuts down eastbound I-40 in New Mexico

Published:

Part of a New Mexico interstate remains closed following an early morning pileup involving several semi trucks.

The pileup began around 3 a.m. on December 2 in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 181 near Sedillo Hill, New Mexico.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says that “seven semi trucks are involved in a large crash on I-40 eastbound near the 181” and reports that several people are trapped in the wreckage.

The cause of the crash and the number of people who are injured is not currently known.

BCSO says that eastbound I-40 is closed from mile marker 175 to 181 and asks drivers to find other routes.

Heavy traffic backups have been reported on eastbound I-40.
