Three existing truck stops are turning into TravelCenters of America locations

This week, TravelCenters of America announced that three truck stops will reopen as TA locations during the month of June.

As part of a larger shift in strategy towards franchising in order to rapidly grow the brand, TA said that they’ll open three travel centers in as many weeks.

On June 2, a TA Express location that was formerly a Coffee Cup Fuel Stop opened in Vermillion, South Dakota.

On June 10, a TA Express location that was formerly the Gateway of Nacogdoches Travel Center will open in Nacogdoches, Texas.

On June 17, a TA location that was formerly the Shuttle Truck Stop 75 will open in Lake City, Florida.

“Expanding our travel center network through partnerships with existing facilities is a key part of our growth strategy,” said Jon Pertchik, CEO of TA. “Whether it is a full service travel center or smaller format TA Express, this growth allows us to offer more drivers the fuel, restaurants and other services they need while doing their important jobs which, with the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently impacting our country, are more critical than ever.”

The COVID-19 crisis forced TA to lay off approximately 3000 workers in April because of the closure of full service restaurants. In May, the company announced a strategy shift towards franchising. TA says that they’ve signed 18 franchise agreements since the beginning of 2019.
