Indiana State Police (ISP) say that they arrested three men after a protest activity resulted in miles-long backups on a highway on Wednesday.
The arrests were made around 6 p.m. on August 12 in Kosciusko County, Indiana.
According to a news release from Indiana State Police, calls started coming in about major backups on US 30 due to a protest activity.
When troopers arrived on the scene, they said that a group of protesters were walking along the highway accompanied by eight support vehicles driving along the highway at walking speed.
Trooper say that they spoke with protest leader, Wisconsin resident Frank Sensabaugh, 30, and explained that the protest was creating a dangerous situation that could cause a crash on the 60 m.p.h. highway. Troopers also invited the protesters to continue walking and driving on the shoulder of the highway, not in the active lanes.
However, ISP says that “purportedly the group failed to comply and continued walking eastbound with eastbound traffic continuing to back up for approximately seven miles.”
Troopers warned the group a second time to stay out of the right lane of traffic.
Finally, troopers arrested three of the protesters, Sensabaugh, Eric Ajala, 20, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Tory Lowe, 44, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction of traffic.
Lowe was also charged with resisting arrest.
All three men posted bail.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor will be reviewing the charges filed against the protesters.
