Three teens charged for allegedly throwing cinderblock at semi, sending trucker to hospital

They've been charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.

New Jersey State Police (NJSP) say that they have charged three teenage boys who are accused of throwing an object at a semi truck from a Turnpike overpass.

On April 10, NJSP announced that they had issued charges to two sixteen year old males and a seventeen year old male for an incident that sent a truck driver to the hospital.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on March 26 in Carneys Point, New Jersey.

Truck driver Dennis Gilbert was northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike at mile marker 4.9 when a cinderblock was thrown from the Penns Grove Auburn Road overpass at his truck.

Gilbert said that the impact of the cinderblock was so forceful that “I thought I hit a parked car in the slow lane.”

After shattering Gilbert’s windshield, the cinderblock struck another semi truck.

Gilbert suffered injuries to his face and eyes from the broken glass and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the second semi truck wasn’t hurt.

After a two-week investigation, police were able to identify a pickup truck spotted on the overpass. With help from the Carneys Point Police Department, the owner of the truck and two other teens were identified.

On April 10, the three suspects were charged with aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.
