Troopers say trucker ‘fabricated’ story about interstate robbery and stabbing

Published:

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that a truck driver has withdrawn his statement after earlier claims that he was robbed and stabbed last night.

The unnamed truck driver initially said that the attack happened on I-76 in Wadsworth, Ohio, around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The truck driver said that he pulled over after a pickup flashed its headlights and that one suspect threatened him with a gun while the other stabbed him during a robbery attempt before fleeing the scene.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say that while the truck driver was questioned in the hospital, several inconsistencies popped up in his story.

Eventually, the truck driver withdrew his statement, according to state police, who later said in a news release that his story was “fabricated.”

It isn’t clear what motivated the truck driver to fabricate his account of the events.

The incident remains under investigation.
