Troopers say trucker leaped to safety from flaming cab dangling from bridge

Published:

New York State Police say that a truck driver managed to save his own life after a crash that left him hanging from a bridge on Wednesday night.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on August 26 on westbound I-90 in West Seneca, New York.

Troopers say that 54 year old Georgia-based truck driver Igor Simakov lost control on wet pavement while crossing the Clinton Street bridge, causing his truck to strike the guardrail on the right shoulder.

The truck crashed through the guardrail and was soon fully engulfed in flames as the truck partially dangled from the bridge.

Simakov was able to jump from the truck to a grassy area below on Mineral Springs Road. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The incident partially closed I-90 for hours but all lanes reopened by 5 a.m. on Thursday.
