A Texas truck driver was arrested following a traffic stop and major drug seizure on the Massachusetts Turnpike this week.

The incident began on Sunday, May 24, in Charlton, Massachusetts, according to reporting from local news outlet The Worcester Telegram.

Massachusetts State Police troopers spotted a semi truck hitting speeds of 50 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone on while eastbound on the Massachusetts Turnpike. Troopers also spotted the truck cutting off another vehicle as it merged from I-84 onto the Turnpike.

The truck pulled over for the troopers at the 5E Plaza on the Turnpike.

After truck driver Javier Robledo Perez stopped, he gave the troopers permission to search his vehicle.

When troopers searched the cab of the truck, they discovered a box “in plain view” that appeared to contain bricks of illegal drugs.

The troopers placed Perez under arrest and called the FBI Boston Strike Force.

Federal agents arrived on the scene and discovered a second sealed box that contained more bricks of illegal drugs.

The FBI ultimately seized 30 kilos of cocaine, seven cellphones, and an empty gun case.

Perez was issued a charge of possession with intent to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine.
