Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) say that they made a major methamphetamine bust after inspecting a semi truck at a Texas checkpoint.
The drug bust took place on November 18, 2020, at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Pharr, Texas.
CBP says that an officer referred a tractor trailer hauling a load of corn husks for a secondary inspection.
With help from a canine unit, officers discovered “alleged liquid methamphetamine concealed within the tractor’s fuel tanks.”
CBP says that they were able to extract 1,255 pounds of the liquid methamphetamine from the truck’s fuel tanks, which was then transferred to 26 plastic buckets.
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $25 million.
Both the drugs and the truck were seized by CBP.
The investigation was handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.
“This was a great team effort that resulted in this discovery of hard narcotics in our cargo facility,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Although an apparent daunting task, our frontline officers continue with their perseverance and commitment towards keeping dangerous drugs from crossing our borders.”
