Truck driver killed after mysteriously exiting rig in middle of 3-lane highway

Published:

A truck driver was killed Thursday morning after parking and exiting his semi truck on a busy Illinois highway.

The incident occurred on August 13th at approximately 10 a.m. in Arlington Heights along Interstate 90 between Arlington Heights Road and Route 53.

According to Patch News, the 63-year old unnamed truck driver was traveling westbound along Interstate 90 when he parked his 2008 Freightliner in the third lane of the three lane highway and got out of his truck, standing in the second lane of traffic.

An oncoming semi truck traveling in the third lane then swerved to avoid the stopped rig, striking and killing the driver standing in the second lane.

The second driver, also unnamed, refused medical treatment on scene.

All lanes of I 90 were reopened by 1:15 p.m. but the incident is still under investigation.
