Truck driver sentenced to less than two years for fatal distracted driving collision

A truck driver will spend just under two years in jail for a distracted driving accident that killed a couple on the way to their wedding.

Jaspreet Chahal was sentenced this week for a fatal crash that occurred in November 2018 in Windsor Township, Pennsylvania, killing Joseph Kearney and Kathryn Schurtz.

According to WFMZ News, Chahal was talking on his phone while driving along Interstate 78 when he slammed into a line of stopped vehicles. The impact of the collision pushed the couple’s SUV into another semi truck, and all three vehicles erupted into flames.

Chahal pled guilty to homicide by vehicle and several other charges. He will spend 11-1/2 to 23 months in jail and two months on probation.
