Truck driver who tested positive for COVID-19 featured in report

A OTR truck driver from Rhode Island describes his experiences after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 in a new report.

The report from Rhode Island news station WPRI features truck driver Chris Bordes, who mainly operates in the northeastern U.S. states like New York and New Jersey, which have been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bordes said that he started to feel symptoms at the beginning of the weekend after two weeks out on the road.

While the symptoms started off fairly mild, he said that they soon escalated. “It was getting hard to breathe, the chest pressure continued, I felt like I was being squeezed in a vice,” Bordes said.

Bordes was eventually admitted to the hospital and tested positive for Coronavirus. He has been released and is recovering at home.

Bordes says that he isn’t sure where he contracted the virus.

Bordes says that the public needs to realize that truckers are putting their health on the line in order to serve the American public and asks that they be treated with respect.

Bordes also called attention to the fact that many truckers are facing limited access to clean restroom facilities during the Coronavirus outbreak.
