Truck driver’s attempt to avoid one collision leads to another serious crash

A semi truck’s attempt to avoid a collision with a stopped car led to the death of another motorist in California this week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 19th in Fresno County along Highway 180.

California Highway Patrol reports that the tractor trailer was traveling along Highway 180 and Whitesbridge Avenue near Chateau Fresno Avenue when he suddenly noticed a car stopped in the roadway, waiting to make a left turn. The driver was unable to stop in time so they swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an SUV. The collision killed the female passenger and sent the male driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

The truck driver was uninjured in the incident, reported Fox 26 News.

Officers say that the stopped vehicle had been sitting waiting to make a left turn for “a while” but that the truck driver did not notice it in time.

Police do not suspect that the truck driver was under the influence at the time of the wreck and say that he is fully cooperating with the investigation.
