Trucker awarded $50,000 for hitting ‘historic’ safety milestone

A large trucking company recently celebrated one of their drivers for an “historical” achievement.

Last month, trucking company J.B. Hunt recognized California-based truck driver Phil Fortin for five million safe miles.

Fortin has driven for J.B. Hunt since 1984.

J.B. Hunt says that that Fortin is the first driver in company history to hit the five million mile mark.

Fortin was presented with a check for $50,000 to honor his safety achievement during a ceremony at the J.B. Hunt South Gate, California, terminal, the company says. Fortin was also presented with a 5 million mile decal for his truck.

Fortin said of his safety milestone, “I don’t know if pride is the word that I would use. I think it’s more of just being satisfied in the effort that I put into it every day.”
