A truck driver has been awarded nearly $8 million in damages following an accident with a fork-lift at a shipper.
On July 21, 2017, Bhupinder Singh was picking up a load of produce at the Capay warehouse owned by Capay Inc., which also has companies under the names of Capay Fruits and Vegetables and Farm Fresh to You, when he was ran over by a forklift.
According to the Davis Enterprise, the forklift operator was loading pallets of tomatoes onto Singh’s truck when he “failed to use the proper caution in operating his vehicle” and ran over Singh.
Singh was badly injured in the accident and had to have his leg amputated. The amputation meant Singh could no longer drive.
The jury awarded Singh a total of $10.5 million, which was later reduced to $8.5 million.
