Trucker confined in wrecked rig for six hours awaiting rescue

Published:

A truck driver was rescued after six hours trapped inside of his wrecked rig in Texas on Monday.

The accident occurred on November 30th at around 2 a.m. south of Sweetwater, Texas.

According to KTXS News, a semi truck hauling pipes was driving on Highway 70 when it went off the road and overturned, smashing the cab and spilling the load of pipes along the side of the highway.

The driver was unable to call for help or escape from the cab on his own, and awaited rescue inside the smashed truck for nearly five hours before an off-duty fireman noticed the wreck while on his way to work at around 6:45 a.m.

The firefighter promptly called for help and crews spent another hour and a half extricating the driver from the rig.

The driver was then flown to a nearby hospital via helicopter. His current condition is not known.
