Truckers take a beating during severe storm, ‘travel not advised’

Published:

The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) says that multiple roads are impassible after a severe storm passed through the central part of the state on Monday.

According to Iowa DOT, as of Monday afternoon, I-35 is impassible in both directions between Ames and Alleman.

Iowa DOT also says that I-680 between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City is impassible due to the storm.

To make matters worse, the storm also damaged electronic signage, so drivers may not be alerted to the road closures.

Iowa DOT says that drivers should avoid travel if at all possible.

According to the National Weather Service, 136,000 Iowa residents are without power because of the storm.

Many trucker drivers and users of the CDLLife app found themselves out on the road and unable to avoid the damaging storm.
