Wisconsin interstate shut down by George Floyd demonstration

On Friday, demonstrators shut down a major interstate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A group marching in response to the death of George Floyd closed down northbound I-43 at Fond du Lac Avenue on Friday afternoon.

A demonstration organized by the Wisconsin Black Historical Society began around 1 p.m. at 27th and Center, but participants eventually moved to the interstate.

Heavy traffic backups have been reported in the area.

Police are responding and attempting to disperse protesters.

Local news outlets report that 5 or 6 people have been arrested.

The interstate protest activity comes hours after a former officer with the Minneapolis Police, Derek Chauvin, 44, was arrested on third degree homicide charges in Floyd’s death.

This is a developing story.
