17K Navistar trucks recalled as ‘engine may rev and overcome parking brake’

Navistar, Inc. recently issued a recall for thousands of International trucks due to an engine defect that could cause a crash.

The recall affects certain 2019-2021 International MV, 2020-2021 International HV, 2014-2020 International DuraStar and 2015-2018 International WorkStar vehicles.

A total of 17,213 trucks are impacted by the recall.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, the recalled trucks could have a defect that may result in unexpected vehicle movement and a crash: “When the parking brake is applied and the automatic transmission is still in the drive or reverse position and the stationary PTO switch is engaged by the operator, the engine may rev and overcome the parking brake’s ability to keep the vehicle from moving.”

The recall is expected to begin on February 19, 2021. Navistar will notify truck owners and dealers will update the parameters in the Cummins ECM for feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU that enables the PTO neutral interlock, free of charge.

Truck owners with questions may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 20510.
