27K Navistar trucks recalled for defect that could cause sudden engine shutdown

Navistar, Inc. has issued a recall impacting tens of thousands of trucks for a defect that could cause a sudden loss of electrical power.

Navistar is recalling certain 2018-2021 International LoneStar and 2017-2021 International LT vehicles.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, “the battery ground cable ring terminal at the frame connecting point may break, resulting in a loss of electrical power and unintended engine shutdown without warning.” The unexpected engine shutdown could increase the risk of a crash, according to recall documents.

The total number of trucks affected by the recall is 27,457.

The recall is expected to begin on April 16, 2021. Navistar will contact truck owners and dealer will replace the dealers will replace the battery ground cable for free.
