29 immigrants captured via helicopter after fleeing trailer

Published:

Officers are investigating an apparent case of human smuggling just outside of San Antonio early this morning.

The incident happened at around 4 a.m. on Friday, June 4th in Somerset, Texas.

According to News4SA, residents living on Somerset Road and Quesenberry Road near Von Ormy contacted police after they heard banging coming from a parked semi truck.

When police arrived, the trailer was empty, but evidence pointed to a case of human smuggling, so a police helicopter was called to investigate the area. 29 people were discovered through the helicopter search – 20 men and 9 women, aged 17 through 32.

The tractor trailer had come in from Laredo, and authorities say that the people had been inside of the air conditioned trailer for about four hours. There was water provided inside of the trailer. The truck driver has yet to be located.
