29 immigrants discovered in back of ‘nervous’ trucker’s trailer

Published:

29 people were discovered in the back of a semi truck in Texas on Wednesday.

The migrants were discovered on September 1st near Laredo, Texas.

According to LMT Online, 22-year-old truck driver, Joseph Jo’Reel Kelly, arrived at the Interstate 35 checkpoint at around 1 a.m. and seemed nervous during the inspection. When asked about what he was hauling, he reportedly told officers “I don’t know,” and granted agents permission to x-ray the trailer.

“During the non-intrusive scan, it revealed that there were some anomalies within the container (trailer). The container was sealed, and agents had to cut the seal in order to open the container. Agents opened the container and discovered 29 individuals concealed inside the trailer,” states the affidavit.

Kelly was then placed under arrest. During his post-arrest interview, Kelly reportedly kept changing his story, providing officers with inconsistencies. He then requested to have an attorney present before discussing the matter further.

The incident is still under investigation.
