72K Freightliners recalled for headlight defect that could spark a fire

Published:

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling tens of thousands of trucks for a lighting defect that could increase the risk of a fire.

DTNA is recalling certain 2017-2022 Freightliner Cascadias equipped with halogen headlight assemblies.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall documents, the halogen headlight bulb may dislodge during replacement and contact other vehicle components, possibly causing them to melt, which could in turn increase the risk of a fire.

The total number of trucks affected by the recall is 72,508.

The recall is expected to begin on July 12, 2021. DTNA will contact truck owners and dealers will install a foam grommet, cut a 4-inch access hole into the inner fender, and add a warning label on both fenders, free of charge.

Truck owners with questions about the recall can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-887.
