A woman armed with a gun has undergone surgery after threatening a trucker and police officer in an encounter that ended with multiple gunshots.
The incident happened on Wednesday, June 2nd in Vinton, Louisiana at around 3 a.m.
According to KPLC News, a truck driver was stopped on the shoulder of the I-10 west on-ramp to rest when a strange woman approached his rig and threatened him. The trucker contacted police and when they arrived, the woman began threatening officers with a gun.
Eventually, the woman fired at officers, who fired back, injuring the suspect. She was then transported to a nearby hospital where she underwent surgery.
“No, we don’t know the exact extent of the injuries, but we do know that that person was transported to an area hospital and just waiting for medical treatment,” said State Trooper Derek Senegal.
“The officer was forced to fire his weapon. I viewed the video today and I feel that the officer went out there and did his job,” said Vinton Police Captain Scott Spell.
“It’s just, it’s an unfortunate event. None of us want to see this happen.”
The suspect, 54-year-old Annette Odegar, was the only person injured in the altercation. Officers are still unsure why she approached the stopped semi truck.
“We were unable to tie the truck driver and female suspect to one another. As far as we know, they were strangers,” Spell said.
The entire incident is still under investigation.
