Cows wander as far as four miles after cattle truck overturns

Published:

Local farmers and authorities worked to round up a herd of cattle after a cattle truck overturned in Iowa on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened on January 20th at around 3:30 a.m. near Salix.

According to KTIV News, the big rig overturned on Interstate 29 near the Port Neal exit and came to a rest in the median. The force of the impact broke open the trailer, allowing an unknown number of cattle to escape and run loose on the highway.

A secondary cattle truck was brought to the scene to transport the cattle left inside the wrecked trailer while authorities and local farmers worked to round up the missing cows, some of which strayed as far as four miles from the scene of the crash.

Traffic was detoured off of I-29 in both directions as crews worked to wrangle the livestock.

The incident has since been cleared. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
