A delivery driver says he forgives a police officer that crashed into his truck earlier this month, despite his broken leg.
The accident happened on April 13th in Denver, Colorado, but the officer was not arrested for the incident until Tuesday, April 27th.
According to Fox Denver, officer Jacob Marsh was in an unmarked patrol car pursuing another vehicle the wrong way in the 4800 block of North Quebec Street when he crashed head-on into Christopher Cordova’s work truck.
Police reports say that “Marsh was traveling 75 mph in a posted 45 mph zone” at the time of the crash, which broke Cordova’s leg.
Due to the nature of the incident and the subsequent injury, Marsh was placed on unpaid leave and is currently facing an internal investigation to determine whether he was permitted to conduct a high speed chase at that time.
Marsh has since been arrested on an investigative hold of vehicular assault, but Cordova says he forgives the officer, and doesn’t want the incident to ruin his career.
“From day one I’ve said I don’t fault the officer. Whether it was the correct way or the wrong way, I still believe he was doing his job. Do I think the gentleman needs to lose his job over this situation? I don’t,” Cordova said.
“I think that we learn from our mistakes. We teach others about our mistakes and we move on that’s what I truly believe…. If you can’t forgive, you can’t move on and you can’t grow, that’s my belief,” he continued.
“In the long run to be totally honest, I’m glad it was me and nobody else.”
If convicted of vehicular assault, Marsh could face up to three years in prison.
