‘Disoriented’ truck driver arrested after ending up in a ditch

Published:

A truck driver was arrested in Illinois early on Thursday after becoming ‘disoriented’ and driving his rig into a ditch.

The accident happened on September 2nd at around 3 a.m. in Hancock County, Illinois.

According to Herald-Whig, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department received reports of a lost and disoriented truck driver and responded to the scene.

When an officer arrived at the scene along County Road 1000N, he found the truck resting in a roadside ditch, with the driver insisting that people were attempting to enter his rig even though no one else was around.

First responders arrived, but the driver refused treatment. Officers then conducted a search of the truck with the driver’s consent, and discovered methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to consume methamphetamine inside of the cab.

The driver, identified as 56-year-old John D. Last, was then placed under arrest and taken to the Hancock County Jail, where he will stay pending an initial court appearance.

He is being charged with possession of methamphetamine and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
