Driver ejected, pulled beneath rig in dramatic single-truck crash

A truck driver who died in a dramatic single-rig crash in Utah on Monday has been identified.

The crash happened on August 23rd in northern Utah County, Utah. 

According to Gephardt Daily News, 75-year-old Gary Hubbard was driving his rig southbound on Interstate 15 at around 2:35 p.m. when a tire blew, sending his rig careening out of control. 

“The left front steer tire of the vehicle blew causing it to swerve left across the number two, one, and HOV lanes then impact the center concrete median barrier,” Utah Highway Patrol said in a statement. 

“According to witnesses, the driver and sole occupant was ejected and pulled underneath the semi as it continued south along the HOV and left emergency lane. The vehicle came to a stop at approximately 275.5 in the left emergency lane.”

Hubbard was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
