Driver perishes after semi crashes all the way through AutoZone store in Texas

Police in Texas, have confirmed that a truck driver did not survive a crash into an autoparts store early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred at 4:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, in Lufkin, Texas.

Police say that a truck driver was traveling southbound at the Tulane intersection when for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and travelled several hundred yards before crashing into and through the AutoZone building located on Timberland Drive.

The truck came to a stop in a tree line behind a neighboring office building.

By the time that first responders arrived on the scene, the truck driver had already passed away. It took firefighters 30 minutes to extricate him from the cab.

Police say that the truck took down power lines and that two vehicles in the AutoZone parking lot were damaged. Around 900 homes were temporarily without power.

The identity of the truck driver has not been released. Police say that he was from out of state and that he was hauling bananas.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Lufkin police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
