Driver seriously hurt in bridge crash that obliterated rig

A truck driver was seriously hurt after driving into a bridge pier in Missouri on Monday morning. 

The accident happened on September 27th in New Madrid County, Missouri. 

According to KFVS 12 News, the 45-year-old unnamed driver was heading north on Interstate 55, 3 miles south of Matthews, when he ran off of the left side of the road and struck a bridge pier. 

The force of the wreck destroyed 20 feet of guardrail and a bridge pier, damaged a second bridge pier, and obliterated the cab of the 2017 Kenworth. 

The truck driver was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is not known.
