Drivers planning on using US 60 in Arizona, might want to make new plans due to a major road closure starting this weekend.
Starting late Sunday night, US 60 between Superior and Miami will be fully closed as crews work to realign the highway to meet with the new Pinto Creek bridge. This is part of a two-year, $22.7 million project to replace the 72 year old bridge.
The closure is set to begin at 10 p.m. Sunday, September 12, and end at noon Friday, September 17.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) driver should plan for an extra hour of travel and a 10 percent grade as traffic is detoured onto state routes 77 and 177 through Winkleman.
ADOT says that eastbound traffic in Superior will be directed onto SR 177, and westbound traffic will be redirected at the west end of Miami.
Drivers with a destination within the closed portion of US 60 will be allowed to pass through closure points, but no vehicles will be allowed between no vehicles will be allowed between Top-of-the-World and Pinto Valley Mine Road.
