Published:

A portion of Highway 1 in California has been shut down “indefinitely” following a fatal crash off of a cliff, police say.

The crash happened on Wednesday afternoon, September 15th near Pacifica.

According to SF Gate, the reason behind the single-vehicle crash is still unclear, but witnesses say they saw the car drive off the road and roll down the cliff near the Devil’s Slide Trail. Crews spent several hours recovering a body and vehicle “a few hundred feet down” below the roadway.

The victim’s name has still not been released, but the incident is still under investigation. Officials have closed the southbound portion of Highway 1 in the area “indefinitely” as of Wednesday night.
