I-25 to see overnight closures south of Denver this weekend

Published:

Interstate 25 northbound south of Denver will be completely closed overnight starting on Friday for ‘emergency bridge work.’

This round of closures will affect northbound Interstate 25 from Ridgegate Parkway to Lincoln Avenue beginning on June 4th and will continue intermittently until Saturday, June 12th.

The Colorado Department of Transportation explains the upcoming closuresas follows:

  • Friday night, June 4, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Delays could be up to 20 minutes. Lanes will be open during the day.
  • Saturday night, June 5 from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 6. The closures are necessary for bridge demolition work.  Motorists should avoid this area if possible.  Extreme delays are likely, of up to 2 hours through Sunday afternoon.
  • Overnight Sunday, June 6 to Saturday, June 12 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Work on these nights involves bridge replacement, including setting a new girder and installing deck panels.

According to 4 CBS Denver, the bridge was struck by a semi truck back in February, causing some serious damage. Repairs have been underway since late May and are expected to continue through July 4th weekend.

Northbound I-25 traffic will be directed to exit 192 to Ridgegate Parkway as a detour, but drivers are warned to expect ‘extreme delays’ of up to two hours on Saturday night and into Sunday afternoon.
