I-285 SB in ATL closed for fiery collision between wood & candle hauling rigs

Published:

A portion of Interstate 285 southbound has been closed indefinitely as crews work to battle a fiery wreck involving three semi trucks.

As of 9:18 a.m. CST on Thursday, October 21st, I-285 at Interstate 85 in Southwest Atlanta, Georgia was closed and is expected to remain so for several more hours.

According to 11 Alive, A semi truck was entering the interstate when it lost control. The driver was somehow able to jump out of the truck, but the rig kept rolling and was hit by two other trucks, sparking a fire. Of the rigs involved in the wreck, one was hauling candles and another was hauling lumber.

It is not clear what injuries, if any, were sustained in the wreck.

The College Park Police Department issued the following statement about the closure:

“At this time I can’t give an estimate time of clearing the road, there are no hydrants on the express way and we are shuttling water to our engines. We do have East Point and City of S. Fulton assisting with this.”

Authorities suggest using Washington Road down as far as Highway 29. Or, if possible, consider getting off at Camp Creek Parkway to get to I-85.
