A man was fatally struck after he and two other people hitched a ride on a semi truck in Laredo, Texas, earlier this month.
The incident occurred on August 11 on Old Santa Maria Avenue in Laredo, according to local outlet LMT Online.
According to the Laredo Police Department, officers arrived at the scene of a semi vs. pedestrian accident around 5:22 p.m., where they found a 30 year old man suffering severe injuries.
A person who said that he was the brother of the man who had been struck by the truck told officers that they had recently crossed the illegally border with a woman.
The man told police that all three people had climbed onto a truck at a gas station without the truck driver’s awareness.
While the truck was stopped at a traffic light, all three people decided to get off of the truck. However, as the light changed and the truck began to accelerate, the man slipped and fell under the truck, which then ran over him.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Laredo police say that the truck driver was not cited because he didn’t know that anyone had climbed onto his vehicle.
