Kansas police have arrested a man after a truck driver was shot and injured while working on his truck in a parking lot on Thursday.

Missouri resident Clayton Mays, 47, has been booked into the Finney County Jail on suspicion of Attempted First-Degree Murder, according to the Garden City Police Department located in Kansas.

According to police, shortly before 9 a.m. on July 29, officers were dispatched to a hotel room in Garden City for a report of a person who had been shot.

Investigators learned that the victim had been working on his semi truck in the north lot of the hotel when a suspect later identified as Mays approached the victim while holding a handgun and opened fire.

The victim told police that he though that Mays had fired multiple shots and that he’d been hit in the leg by a bullet.

The truck driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Mays left the scene and the truck driver went back to his hotel room.

Police were able to identify Mays as the suspected shooter and arrested him on the east side of the hotel.

Police say that the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
