Man with cane struck by semi after falling onto highway

Published:

A man was killed in Missouri early Tuesday morning after accidentally falling into the path of an oncoming semi truck.

The accident happened on November 30th at around 5:15 a.m. south of Perry, Missouri.

According to KTVO, 55-year-old Melvin Hisel’s vehicle had somehow become stuck or disabled along Highway 19, so Hisel began walking along the highway to find help. Hisel had a bad ankle and walked with a cane, which caused him to fall off the edge of northbound Highway 19 and into the roadway.

Another motorist saw what was going on and attempted to help Hisel up from the roadway but was unable to reach him in time. Hisel was then struck by an oncoming tractor trailer driven by 41-year-old Mohamed Abdulrazik.

Hisel was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. It is not clear if any citations were issued as a result of the incident.
