Massive rock slide causes Colorado Highway 119 to close for several days

Published:

Colorado Highway 119 in Boulder Canyon is expected to be closed for several days after a rockslide left large boulders blocking the roadway

The rockfall occurred on the evening of April 27 during heavy rain and snow in the area.

The closure is expected to last several days as crews work to blast the rocks into smaller pieces to be hauled away said the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The road is closed from mile marker 26 through 41. The Colorado Department of Transportation says the northern detour is CO 72 to Lefthand Canyon Drive and CO 72 south is the southern detour for the area.

It is expected that paving work will also need to be completed once the boulders are removed by crews.

There were no injuries and no vehicles were reported as damaged.
