More than 7000 Western Star trucks recalled for fire risk

Recall

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) has issued a recall for thousands of Western Star vehicles due an increased risk of fire.

The recall affects certain 2017-2019 Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, and 6900 trucks.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, “The affected trucks have a power stud that passes through the bulkhead. In certain circumstances, the power stud may contact the bulkhead and result in an electrical arc.”

The “electrical arc” could cause a fire, according to recall documents.

The recall affects 7,128 vehicles.

This recall supersedes previous recall number 18V-191. Vehicles inspected and deemed complete under that previous recall are still affected by the new recall and will need a new repair.

Truck owners will be notified by mail starting on January 9, 2022. Dealers will replace the pass-through power studs, free of charge.

Owners with questions can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall number FL-907.
