U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Detroit recently seized more than 2500 pounds of marijuana hidden in a commercial truck’s shipment.
The drug seizure took place on Wednesday, July 21, at the Fort Street Cargo Facility in Detroit, Michigan.
CBP says that an inbound truck that was hauling a load manifested as aluminum caps was referred for a secondary inspection.
Officers performed an x-ray scan, which “yielded results inconsistent with the purported goods.”
CBP then performed a physical search of the trailer and discovered 2,583 pounds of marijuana hidden among several pallets.
Authorities seized the marijuana, the truck, and the trailer.
CBP reports an uptick in contraband coming through all points of entry in Michigan since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
“While CBP Field Operations continues to facilitate lawful trade and travel, drug interdiction remains an enforcement priority.” said Port Director Devin Chamberlain. “The men and women of CBP continue to work to keep dangerous and unregulated substances from hitting the streets of the U.S.”
