More than half a ton of marijuana discovered beneath trailer floor

Border patrol agents discovered more than half a ton of alleged marijunana hidden beneath the floorboards of an empty semi truck.

The discovery was made on Tuesday, May 11th at the Pharr International Bridge in Pharr, Texas.

According to News 4 SA, agents were inspecting an empty tractor trailer crossing the border from Mexico and decided to take a closer look. With the use of noninvasive imaging, they discovered 300 packages of alleged marijuana hidden beneath the floorboards of the trailer.

The packages have an estimated street value of $250,000 and weighed in at over 1,000 pounds.

“Although some of the other hard narcotics may be more lucrative to drug smuggling organizations, large interceptions of marijuana like these still keep our communities safe, which is a top priority within our border security mission,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
