Texas police have confirmed that a man was impaled after crashing into a truck parked along the side of the roadway while the truck driver slept early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred in Deer Park, Texas, around 3:30 a.m.
Police say that a truck driver pulled off onto the shoulder of 7400 LaPorte Fwy around 1:20 a.m. and went back into the bunk area to sleep as he waited to deliver a load of rebar.
“It was parked well off to the side of the road with its lights on and hazard lights on,” Harris County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dashana Cheek told ABC 13.
The truck driver woke after feeling something strike his truck. After exiting the cab, he discovered that a black Infiniti had crashed into his trailer.
Cheek says that the rebar went through the car’s windshield and impaled the motorist, causing fatal injuries.
The motorist, who was described as an Hispanic male between the ages of 20 and 30, died at the scene, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
No other injuries were reported.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
