The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) is asking drivers to avoid travel on parts of I-80 after several crashes were reported on Thursday.
Around noon on Thursday, ISP announced that I-80 east of Des Moines is shut down at mile markers 146WB, 163EB, 175WB, 185WB due to crashes that occurred during winter weather conditions.
In video captured on I-80 today, you can see multiple trucks and police cruisers involved in a pileup crash.
It isn’t yet clear how many vehicles are involved in the crashes or whether anyone was injured.
ISP warned drivers earlier Thursday that blowing winds would make travel treacherous for high profile vehicles.
