New law banning left lane camping goes into effect in Arkansas

This week, a new law went into effect in Arkansas to tighten restrictions on left lane use.

On Wednesday, July 28, Act 1090 went into effect on Arkansas roadways.

Previously, Arkansas drivers were allowed to use the left lane of a multi-lane roadway as long as they weren’t impeding the flow of traffic.

Under the new law, drivers are banned from all use of the left lane except in the following 4 circumstances.

1. When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing that movement

2. When all other lanes for traveling in the same direction are closed to traffic while under construction or repair

3. When all other lanes for traveling in the same direction are in disrepair or are in an otherwise undrivable or unsafe condition

4. When a vehicle is preparing to exit the multilane highway on the left.

Arkansas State Police are reminding drivers that they must still obey posted speed limits.
