Nine Mercedes charred in car-hauler fire

Published:

Nine Mercedes vehicles were burned in a car hauler fire in Ohio on Tuesday morning, shutting down the highway for around two hours.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. on Interstate 70 in Guernsey County.

According to The Daily Jeffersonian, 46-year-old trucker, Alfred Williams, was heading west on I-70 when he noticed smoke coming from his trailer. Williams pulled over onto the shoulder and disconnected his 2019 Peterbilt from the trailer while he waited for help, but the four SUVs, three coupes, and two sedans were destroyed in the flames anyway, along with the trailer.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were shut down for around two hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage, but have since been reopened.

A damage estimate for the Mercedes vehicles and the trailer lost in the incident has not been released, butt he truck and cargo were reportedly insured properly.

No citations have been issued, but the incident is still under investigation.
