Observant trash truck driver saves injured puppy dumped in street

Published:

A trash truck driver has been dubbed a “hero” after rescuing an injured puppy dumped in the street.

The rescue happened on Wednesday, January 27th near Cincinnati, Ohio.

According to Rumpke, the trash company driver Aaron Kinsel works for, Kinsel was working when he noticed a backpack abandoned along the road in Colerain Township. Luckily, he noticed the bag was moving, and left his truck to investigate – that’s when he discovered a small puppy inside.

Kinsel quickly collected the 10-week-old puppy and took it to a nearby vet’s office, where she is now being treated for dehydration and a broken leg.

Kinsel and his family have decided to keep the female boxer-mix, naming her “Tipper,” after the mechanism on the back of garbage trucks that scoops up the trash cans.

“I felt like I was meant to find her,” Kinsel said to 10 TV News.

“For their safety, as well as the safety of our customers, Rumpke drivers are trained to remain observant. We do our best to take care of our communities and always do the right thing,” said Kendra Catherman Cincinnati safety manager at Rumpke. “We are very proud of Aaron and delighted to make Tipper an honorary member of our Rumpke team.”
