One trucker’s Facebook post has inspired a community wide volunteer effort to send much needed supplies to Texans in need following the severe winter storm.
Truck driver and trucking company owner Brad Hayes initially made a post asking for help in filling a semi truck with supplies so that he could haul it down to Texas, and residents of Grove City, Ohio have answered the call.
With the help of local bartender Courtney Kiser, Hayes has managed to collect food, water, clothes, $1,300, and various other supplies in just a few days. Hayes plans to continue collecting donations through Wednesday, February 24th, and haul it all to Texas this upcoming weekend.
“They were showing pictures of empty store shelves and they were building fires around water lines and I thought, ‘Man, somebody’s got to do something, somebody’s got to help,” Hayes said to NBC4i News.
“It gives me goosebumps even talking about it, just thinking, even from a parent’s perspective, I couldn’t imagine any child, mother, being without anything,” Kiser added. “I would be devastated, so anything we could do to help, why not?”
“Them people are in a world right now that they’re not used to and if we can help, we’ll help as much as we can,” Hayes continued.
