One dead after pickup’s attempt to pass semi using shoulder

Published:

One person is dead after a pickup truck driver attempted to pass a semi truck by using the shoulder.

The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 11th in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

According to WYFF News, a pickup and a tractor trailer were heading east on Interstate 26, four miles east of Highway 221, when the pickup tried to pass the rig using the right shoulder. The pickup then slammed into the back of another semi truck parked on that shoulder, and that wreck caused the first semi truck to also strike the stopped rig.

A passenger in the pickup truck, 30-year-old Colby Baxley, was thrown from the pickup and died at the scene. The driver of the pickup and the driver of the moving semi truck were also hurt in the crash and were transported to a nearby hospital.

The incident is still under investigation.
