A major landslide has forced Oregon transportation officials to close part of I-84 near Dodson until further notice.
Early Wednesday morning, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced that eastbound I-84 is closed at the Troutdale Exit (Exit 17) until further notice following a landslide that left 10 feet of debris in some areas. Westbound I-84 remains open.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that the “EB lanes of I-84 between Troutdale and MP36 & NE Frontage Rd. remain closed indefinitely.”
Evacuation orders are also in place for the city of Dodson due to the landslide.
.@NWSPortland has issued evacuation notices, flash flood warning for Dodson. Active landslides are making it difficult for responders to safely access community. Residents, leave by traveling east. All others, avoid the area. https://t.co/P8chvAMC12

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office says that one person is “unaccounted for” following the landslide. Police believe that the person’s vehicle was swept away by the landslide. Active landslides are making it too dangerous to do a physical search.
The landslide is estimated to be about ten feet deep in some areas. @OregonDOT is working to determine whether the hillside is stable & safe enough to allow emergency crews to begin clearing the debris, primarily mud, boulders, logs, and continue searching for the missing person. pic.twitter.com/572tqXxRxT

Standing high water is in various areas around #NWOregon because of the intense rain/ high tides at the #OregonCoast. Slow down, especially thru high water. Driving thru several inches of water at high speed can cause you to lose control of the car or create engine stall. #orwx pic.twitter.com/HcxPOdf3Uz
