Pinned garbage truck driver freed after two-hour-long rescue

Published:

A garbage truck driver is in critical condition after being freed from his wrecked rig in Texas on Monday.

The accident happened on April 26th in north Montgomery County just before 7:30 a.m.

According to the Montgomery County Police Reporter, when firefighters arrived, the garbage truck had overturned into a roadside ditch and came to a stop leaning against a tree. The positioning of the rig against the tree, along with the way the driver’s leg was pinned beneath the dashboard and behind the steering column, made for a difficult rescue for the first responders. At one point, a doctor was even contacted in case the leg needed to be amputated at the scene in order to free the driver.

Finally, after an approximately two hour rescue, the driver was freed from the garbage truck and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His current health status is not known.

A hazmat team was also called to the scene to clean up diesel spilled in the wreck.
